What in the wide world did we just do...

This is the question I posed to Rob as we sat in the the train station, tickets in hand, not five minutes after unloading our bags from our (now ex) landlord's SUV. The kind woman offered to save us an Uber trip to the train station after our move out inspection and key exchange was complete. You see, I'd sold my motorcycle a month ago, and Rob had sold his car three hours before we were set to meet the landlord.

So there we were, bewildered that it actually happened. We'd finally both collectively lost our minds and pulled the (metaphorical) trigger. We had our savings padded out by the last 8 months of selling everything we owned that we weren't taking with us and wasn't bolted down. A few boxes of memorabilia and important documents were shipped to our parents. We relied on the kindness of our friends (Thanks Tessa and Nolan!) to let us store a couple of footlockers of camping equipment and my chef knives I couldn't bear to sell. All we had left in our possession was a mid-sized green rolling suitcase, one backpack each, his laptop bag, and my purse. After a long pause and careful scan of our lot Rob answers, "I don't know, I think it still hasn't sunk in yet."

This is how it started.

Four months ago we set out, as green as can be, but determined to make this experience (and our money) last as long as we could. With little more planned than a few Airbnb's booked, and plane tickets we started our journey 2,600miles south in Puerto Vallarta.

A beautiful, vibrant resort city along Mexico's Pacific coastline seemed like a good place to get our feet wet. Armed with our limited Spanish, a sense of adventure, and an eagerness to learn...we settled in to our first destination.
